Hi Everybody.

Forgive me for the long, long delay between updates! April through June is a ratings period for me at Ann Arbor’s 107one, and that means that I’ve been doing much in the way of shakin’ hands and kissin’ babies, which translates as: making lots of office calls throughout Ann Arbor and emceeing all kinds of events. In addition, my Playlist column for the Sunday Detroit Free Press – plus my semi-regular ‘5 Questions’ column for the Freep- have kept me hopping as well.

This extended Memorial Day weekend is my first time off since the first of this year, so besides catching up on old episodes of The Wire and doing a bit of exercising, I’ve been watching the Monanco Grand Prix (congrats, Lewis Hamilton), Indy 500 (same to you, Scott Dixon), Tigers, Red Wings and Pistons. Notice that much of these activities involve reclining on a couch – that’s no accident.

As far as upcoming events, I’m looking forward to this Saturday’s Steve Winwood/Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers show at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Can’t believe I have never seen Petty in concert before, and it’s been decades since I last saw Winwood – I believe I caught him when he was in Traffice at a show in Ypsi in the 70s. I also had the honor of seeing him in Blind Faith – with Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker & Ric Grech – at Detroit’s long gone Olympia Stadium in 1969. I still remember the show very well, including the rather scandalous poster I bought that night (something to do with a scantily-clad woman hanging on a cross!).

On June 8 I’ll be broadcasting and stage-emceeing from Grillin’ 08, one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for Food Gatherers, Washtenaw County’s food bank and food rescue organization. Full details on this worthwhile event are at: foodgatherers.com

107one is sponsoring three nights of free music at the Ann Arbor Summer Festival’s Top of the Park series – me and the rest of 107one gang will be at Ingalls Maill (next to Hill Auditorium) the evenings of June 16, June 20 & 27 as the Ragbirds, Money Mark, Serena Ryder and other artists take the stage. Details at: annarborsummerfestival.org

Another update with more June events coming up in a week – I promise!

Best,

Martin
