On the Labor Day weekend edition of Fine Tuning I’ll pay tribute to jazz vocalist Cassandra Wilson, who died yesterday at the far-too-young age of 70. Cassandra’s stellar series of albums she recorded for Blue Note Records between 1993 and 2010 featured cover versions of songs by an incredibly wide variety of artists: Robert Johnson, the Monkees, U2, Joni Mitchell, Hank Williams, Van Morrison and many others. In the album spotlight this Sunday will be Alabama Shakes’ first release in over 11 years, “I Must Be Dreaming,” a welcome return from the Athens, Alabama band led by vocalist Brittany Howard.
