Richard Thompson, the revered British singer/songwriter/guitarist, began his career almost 60 years ago when he co-founded the folk-rock band Fairport Convention. In 1972 he released his solo debut “Henry the Human Fly,” and some 54 years later he has just issued “Hippies, Thugs and Heroes,” one of his very greatest albums to date. Mojo magazine calls it one of the bleakest and best albums of his career, while No Depression says that it’s another chapter in an ongoing, restless masterclass. Richard performs at Hill Auditorium on January 29th as part of the 50th Ann Arbor Folk Festival, and “Hippies, Thugs and Heroes” will be in the album spotlight this Sunday on Fine Tuning. Also in the mix will be an 87th birthday tribute to Jefferson Airplane’s Grace Slick, plus new music by Michael Kiwanuka, The Rolling Stones & Paul McCartney.
