This Sunday on Fine Tuning I’ll start the show with a tribute to the Grammy-winning musician and producer William Orbit (pictured), who recently passed away at the age of 69. William’s three “Strange Cargo” albums are British electronica classics, and he also co-produced “Ray of Light,” Madonna’s greatest studio album. From there I’ll play the topical and very poignant new single “Volver A Celaya,” the first-ever collaboration between Steve Earle and Los Lobos, and in the album spotlight I’ll feature “The New World,” by Austin, Texas indie-rockers Shearwater. To top off the program I’ll have a birthday tribute to Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits, who turns 77 on August 12th. Fine Tuning: Sundays from 4 to 6 p.m. on ann arbor’s 107one.
