News for 06/04/06

It’s been four months now since I became the “morning guy” at ann arbor’s 107one. It’s been intense, instructional and incredibly fun. In addition to the 6-10 a.m. weekday show and my Sunday 4-6 p.m. freeform adventure, “Fine Tuning,” I’ve been interviewing musicians, of course, and people connected to all kinds of cool local activities. The free lunchtime concerts at Borders Ann Arbor store are a blast. And it’s not every day you get to have a live saw whet owl in your studio, or visit the new local sanctuary where it will reside. I hope I’ve been a good conduit for music and community info thus far. Please let me know.

You’ll also be interested to hear that 107one has launched “Listener Co-op,” seeking your musical opinions on its current selections and suggestions for future programming. Feel free to share your thoughts with the powers that be.

Some recent activities:

UMS Distinguished Artist Award ceremony for/with Dave Brubeck at Hill Auditorium
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland for opening of “Bob Dylan’s American Journey”

Films: “Thank You For Smoking” and “Inside Man”

Coming up:
Television concert in Toronto this Friday
Elvis Costello and Allen Toussaint at Hill Auditorium June 13
Tally Hall at Ann Arbor Summer Festival July 6
Firestone Indy 400 at Michigan Int’l Speedway July 30

Hot new releases:
Nomo “Nu Tones” one of the year’s best releases thus far
Zero 7 “The Garden” in stores Wed. June 6

My next goal is stocking this web site with all the CD reviews I’ve been writing for a local newspaper for the last few years. Please stay tuned!

Best,
Martin
