This Sunday on Fine Tuning I will be doing a two-hour tribute to legendary drummer Ginger Baker, who died on October 6th at the age of 80. Best known for his work with the power trio Cream, Ginger also worked with everyone from Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti to punk rocker John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols) to jazz masters Bill Frisell and Charlie Haden. I had the honor of seeing Ginger Baker in concert two times — once with Blind Faith in 1969 at Olympia Stadium and once in 2014 with his jazz band at the Magic Bag — and I truly believe he was the world’s greatest drummer! Fine Tuning: Sundays from 4 to 6 p.m. on ann arbor’s 107one.
