Hi Everybody.
I want to let all of you know about a big anniversary I’ll be celebrating on Thursday, Feb. 21. That day will mark my 25th anniversary as a radio host!  Back on Feb. 21 in 1983, I began co-hosting the weekly Dimension program on WDET-FM.  Dimension started in 1971 and was first hosted by the trumpet player Charles Moore, known for his work with everyone from the MC5 to Yusef Lateef.

In September of 1991, I switched over to the weekday morning shift at WDET, then started doing weekday afternoons in June of ’92, which is where I stayed until WDET went mostly news/talk in December of 2005.

I joined WQKL-FM, aka Ann Arbor’s 107one, as the 6-10 a.m. morning drive host in January of ’06, and beside that shift I also currently host the freeform Fine Tuning program on Sunday from 4-6 p.m. on 107one.

Plans are being finalized for some kind of public event to celebrate my silver anniversary – quite possibly it will involve a concert in Ann Arbor featuring a major, Grammy-nominated vocalist. I will let you know the details as soon as possible.

I’ll have a bunch of special CD and ticket giveaways on my Feb. 21 morning show, including FRONT ROW tix to see Joe Jackson and Steve Earle in separate concerts at the Michigan Theater along with tickets to the just-announced Rothbury Festival in west Michigan.

On the Feb. 24 Fine Tuning program I’ll play songs that I was playing back in 1983.  Think R.E.M., New Order, Prince, Echo & the Bunnymen, etc.

I remain proud of the fact that I’ve survived and thrived on the radio in Detroit and have played some really cool music for the last 25 years. Endless thanks and much love to all of you for your support over the last quarter of a century…and I ain’t done yet!

Best,

Martin
