Got back to work recently after spending almost a week vacationing in Las Vegas wife my wife Kim. I had a fantastic time and enjoyed it there much more than I thought I would. Hard not to enjoy the sunny days in the mid-90s with almost no humidity, plus we caught Cirque du Soleil’s production of Love, based on the music of the Beatles. This was an abolutely magnificent show and I highly, highly recommend you check it out if you ever have the chance.
Summer starts real soon and that means it’s time for the Ann Arbor Summer Festival, which will feature Los Lobos and Dean & Britta (formerly of Luna) in separate concerts at the Power Center. LL perform on Friday, June 19, and D&B perform on July 2 in front of Andy Warhol’s screen test films shot in the 60s. Los Lobos have not headlined a concert in Michigan since 2005, and Dean & Britta’s show will be their first appearance in Michigan since Luna played one of its final concerts ever, also in ’05.
I’m working on a Los Lobos studio performance while they’re in Ann Arbor, and Dean Wareham will be on live with me for an interview during the 9am hour on July 2. More details soon.
Look for my Playlist review column on Sunday, June 14 in the Detroit Free Press — I’ll be covering new ones by Bettye LaVette, :Levon Helm, Tortoise, Sonic Youth, Bruce Hornsby and more.
