This Sunday on Fine Tuning I will be featuring a whole bunch of tunes sung by the legendary Mavis Staples, who will be headlining the final Sonic Lunch concert of the 2026 season next Thursday, August 27th at the Michigan Theater. Mavis is the last surviving member of The Staple Singers, the R&B and gospel singing group best known for hits such as “Respect Yourself,” “I’ll Take You There,” and “If You’re Ready (Come Go With Me).” Mavis’ latest solo recording “Sad and Beautiful World” won two Grammys and was easily one of my favorite albums of 2025.
