One of my favorite in-studio radio sessions happened on November 9, 1996, when the legendary Scottish singer-songwriter Donovan stopped by to play a few songs and do an interview. I grew up listening to Donovan’s enticing brand of folk, rock and pop, and what a thrill it was to have him as a guest on what was then my 42nd birthday! He even sang an impromptu version of the Beatles’ “Birthday” for me that afternoon…what a blast (see picture). This weekend on Fine Tuning I’ll have a big birthday tribute to Donovan, who turns 80 on Sunday. Also in the mix will be brand new music from The Rolling Stones, and in the album spotlight I’ll feature “13,” the new studio recording from Austin, Texas indie-rockers White Denim.
