This Sunday on Fine Tuning I’ll be featuring “Medicine,” an album recorded by Grace Potter some 16 years ago but not released until now. Inexplicably shelved by her record label despite the fact that it was beautifully produced by T Bone Burnett and features top-shelf musicians like Jim Keltner, Marc Ribot and Dennis Crouch, “Medicine” is a smoky, meditative set of tunes that are steeped in the blues and country. I think it’s the best thing Grace has ever recorded! Also in the mix will be birthday tributes to Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys (who turns 83 on 6/20), and jazz guitarist Grant Green (who would’ve turned 90 on 6/6), plus new songs by Patty Griffin and Rodney Crowell.
