This Sunday on Fine Tuning I will be featuring the final album by The Chills, the New Zealand indie-rock band led from start to finish by singer-songwriter Martin Phillipps. Martin died unexpectedly last year at the age of 61, but was able to complete most of the tracks included on “Spring Board: The Early Unrecorded Songs,” where he reimagined tunes from the band’s early years. “Spring Board” was completed by the final iteration of the Chills, with contributions from the likes of Neil Finn of Crowded House and Hollie Fullbrook of Tiny Ruins.
