This past Tuesday was my 40th anniversary as a radio host…whew, how time flies! On February 21st, 1983, Ralph Valdez & I began hosting the Dimension program on WDET-FM, the show created years earlier by jazz trumpeter Charles Moore. WDET was broadcasting from the top floor of the Maccabees Building in Midtown Detroit, and I always loved the view down Woodward Avenue toward downtown as you passed by the window just before you entered the studio. In 1983 we played all vinyl, with pre-recorded announcements and program themes played on 8-track cartridges, as seen in these pictures of me in the studio from that time period. I’m so happy, honored and humbled to still be on the air forty years later…thanks for listening! Please join me this Sunday (Feb. 26) at 4:00 PM when I go back to the 80’s on Fine Tuning with songs from R.E.M., New Order, Roxy Music, the Associates, Wire, Talking Heads, The The, the English Beat & much more. Fine Tuning: Sundays from 4 to 6 p.m. on ann arbor’s 107one.
