This Sunday at 4pm on Fine Tuning I’ll pay tribute to the drummer and vocalist of The Band, Levon Helm, who died on Thursday at the age of 71. I’ll also feature new releases by Spiritualized (Sweet Heart, Sweet Light) and Amadou & Mariam (Folila).
And please join me this Monday for the next-to-last presentation in Martin Bandyke’s Moving Pictures film series at the Michigan Theater. At 7pm we’ll be screening “Monterey Pop,” D.A. Pennebaker’s documentary about the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, with sensational performances by Otis Redding, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and many others.
